Maternity leave

Paid maternity leave is 14 weeks, split into six weeks before the due date and eight weeks after the birth. Maternity leave increases to 16 weeks in the case of multiple births. It can be extended by a further 11 weeks in cases of pregnancy/birth-related illnesses or up to 12 months if the child is hospitalized.

Paternity leave is covered by family allowance leave, which allows for ten days' paid leave after the birth of a child.

Provided they have a valid reason, an employer may terminate a contract at any time, but they must respect the notice periods set out in employment law.

Severance Pay

Severance payments generally depend on an employee's length of service: Up to five years – 30% of monthly salary Between six and ten years – 35% of monthly salary Over ten years – 40% of monthly salary
Employees dismissed for gross negligence or misconduct are not entitled to severance pay.

Probation Period
  • Probation periods depend on the type of contract and level of seniority hourly employees – 8 days monthly paid workers – 1 month
  • Supervisors, technicians, and equivalent – 2 months
  • Engineers, managers, high-level technicians, and equivalent – 3 months
